  Boardman Township Mechanic Resigns During Investigation Into Improper Use Of Some $15,000 Of Public Monies  
  Michael Carkido Served As Fleet Manager For Police Department Vehicles:   April 24, 2025 Edition

      The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department and Boardman police are investigating allegations a longtime employee of Boardman Department, Michael Carkido, used township funds to make upwards of $15,000 worth of purchases for his private use.
      Carkido, 51, of 2068 Bishop Woods Ct., had been employed by Boardman Township for the past 23 years as a fleet manager/technician in charge of maintaining and repairing the township’s fleet of some 50 police vehicles. He annual salary in 2024 was reported at $74,528.
      On Mar. 10, Carkido was placed on a paid administrative leave from his position, until he submitted a letter of resignation last week, reportedly the day before he was scheduled to attend a hearing into the allegations.

  New Members Of The Boardman Police Department  
  April 24, 2025 Edition  
     THREE NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOARDMAN POLICE DEPARTMENT received their oaths of office last week to open a meeting of the Board of Township Trustees. They are, from left, Patrick Flara, Brittany Christensen and Peyton Comer. Flara formerly served with the Austintown PD and Christensen is a former Ohio State Highway Patrol officer and formerly served with the San Diego, Calif. Sheriff’s Department. Comer is a graduate of the Kent State Police Academy. Flara took office the same day his father, Det. Douh Flara, retired from the Boardman Police Department after 25 years of service.
  Little League Opens 70th Season At Fields Of Dreams On Apr. 28

     In 1955 Disneyland and McDonalds opened, gas was 23 cents per gallon, the Brooklyn Dodgers won the world series, the average annual income was $4,137 and Boardman Little League was founded.
      When the boys and girls of Boardman Community Baseball take to the fields for their first games on Mon., Apr. 28, it will mark the 70th consecutive season that the youth of Boardman have participated in organized baseball and softball under the little league international organization banner.
      When founded in 1955, the goal was to provide an organization run by volunteers supported by the community, and dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play. The league consisted of four major division teams, boys ages 10-12 years old. There were over 270 boys that tried out for 60 spots on the four teams.
